The Statement Sleeve

Steering clear of the statement sleeve trend no more, I finally succumbed and purchased this ZARA red and white stripe, pleated sleeve wrap top. My reluctance to this trend was primarily for practical reasons; concerned about how to iron those tricky sleeves and whether I could restore the ‘as-bought’ look of the top once it had been subjected to water, washing detergent and a gentle spin in the machine. And secondary, because it seemed everyone was wearing, blogging and Instagramming the pleated or ruffle sleeve trend. Better late than never to the party, I’m so happy I finally jumped on this trend bandwagon.

When it’s a popular trend, I tend to purchase only a select few, luxe-for-less pieces, which ZARA consistently provides. Styling my new ZARA top with pieces already in my wardrobe, I instantly felt amazingly chic and a touch feminine. Especially as this ZARA top is both pleated and wrapped, giving interesting detail and volume to what could otherwise be boring striped sleeves; and the wrap style giving an hourglass shape at the waist. This outfit will definitely be on-repeat in the coming spring / autumn months. For evenings out with friends, or should I be lucky enough to have a date-night in the near future, the black slides will be swapped for a pair of heeled ankles boots or wedges.

What trends have you avoided and subsequently fallen in love with?
